Care of your Jewellery

When you are not wearing your jewellery I recommend keeping it in a dark and dry place and preferably in a jewellery box.

To avoid discolouration remove your silver jewellery before extensive sun exposure or swimming in chlorinated or sea water.

Your jewellery is crafted to last with you but will naturally wear, collect scratches, dents; marks of it’s journey with you. Silver will change colour and tarnish and exposure to skin and household products may speed up this process.

Cleaning Your Jewellery

To clean your silver or gold plated jewellery at home; make a luke warm bowl of water and mild washing up liquid and bathe your jewellery. To remove dirt rub it very gently with a super soft toothbrush then rinse immediately under running water and pat dry with a paper towel.

If you would like further cleaning for your silver at home there are products available called Silver Foam or Silver Dip. Silver Dip is a harsh chemical cleaner though so take care and only expose your jewellery for a few seconds in Silver Dip. Rinse thoroughly afterwards in running water and pat gently dry with a paper towel. Neutralise the dip by popping your silver into a basin of warm water with bicarbonate of soda then rinsing well again and drying gently with a paper towel.

Jewellery with a matt finish will wear down in time, buffing to a more polished look. To re-matt at home delicately rub in a circular motion with a fabric scourer to dull any overly shiny areas.

Silver and solid gold polished areas and chains can be re-shone with a silver or gold polishing cloth.

If you would prefer your jewellery re-newed professionally please contact me and we can arrange to do so in the workshop.
